GOVERNMENT RELAXES RESTRICTIONS on Foreign Visitors

Prime Minister Kishida announced today in his press conference that the current restrictions on foreign tourists to Japan will be altered as follows:

(1) Tours can be unescorted by tour conductors and guides, but must still be “packaged tours”.  This applies to travelers from all countries.

(2) The maximum number of people entering Japan, including Japan nationals and foreign residents, will be increased to 50,000 per day from the current 20,000.

These changes will start on September 7.

He also mentioned last week that the PCR test which is now requested 72 hours before departing the country will no longer be necessary, if the traveler is vaccinated 3 times.

We’re now waiting for the government to define what is meant by a “packaged tour” and to release the guidelines. I’ll keep you posted!
