The Drift Ice Is Coming!
With many weather reports that Hokkaido is suffering this year for so little snow, many of us are concerned if the drift ice is coming this year…?
We’ve never had so little snow for the past 40 years. But rest assured, the drift ice is making its way to southern Okhotsk from the north of Sakhalin. The weather diagram shows that the amount of drift ice is about the recent average year (red line shows the average year, the white space is where the drift ice is now as of January 15th).
It’s currently 60km away from Abashiri! We should be able to see its first glimpse by the end of January.
