Drift Ice is Here!
Yesterday was the so-called “first day of the drift ice” – the day we see the drift ice in the horizon. In the case of Abashiri, this is about 20-25km offshore. From here onwards, we have only to depend on the north wind that it brings the ice to the shore.
These 2 pictures were taken today from the shore of Abashiri. See how near it has come in just one night!
…and YES! The ice cruiser, Aurora, will take us into the drift ice now. Now, you can look forward to the boat ride!
