We provide 2 experiences: lunch at a local’s home and soba kaiseki lunch. The 2 lunch plans are hosted by fun and friendly locals who’ll help you to learn more about the Japanese lifestyle, drinking/eating style as well as customs & traditions.
Private Lunch at a Host Home
A friend of mine, Hiroko, will greet us at her home in the residential area of Abashiri. Hiroko is a local with 2 grownup children. We’ll be visiting her house and be invited to her homemade lunch. The lunch menu that will change every day will not be the stereotype Japanese food like sushi or tempura, but something that locals eat commonly for lunch. Hiroko and I planned this lunch so that the visitors to Abashiri can have a hands-on understanding of the lives of the people here - how we think and what we appreciate.

Private Soba Kaiseki Lunch
A full course private soba lunch at an intimate setting. The location is set in the premise of a local resident, a former soba chef, up in Mt. Tento. The chef who’s also a talented artist and Shinto dancer with deep affection to Abashiri can tell you stories of the town and its culture. You might also be interested in hearing stories about soba. The location offers one of Abashiri’s best views, overlooking a vast flower garden, woods, the Okhotsk Sea and the Shiretoko mountain range. In winter the garden turns into a snow-covered plain. You may want to take a stroll after lunch or even go for cherry picking in summer!
