Flower Season Starts! – SKUNK CABBAGE

The name is far from appealing, but these white flowers look similar to carla lily.  This year the season started in mid April.  Abashiri has the largest habitat in Japan – 52 ha at the Yobito Peninsula that runs into Lake Abashiri.  The Peninsula is not only famous for the skunk cabbage, but is also a great place for exploring nature and bird watching.  Be sure to check with locals that the location is safe from bears at that timing.
